House Groups

Our house groups are at the heart of what we do as a Church. There are now 6 groups which meet regularly during school term times with around 60 people taking part. They link into our Sunday services in that they usually study the scripture that has been read in church at the main morning services.

For details of when and where they meet, please contact us and we will be glad to introduce you to the group best suited for you.

If you're already part of a house group then download the latest Study Sheet.

Below are a couple of testimonials about some of our current groups....

The Scott House Group

Our House Group was established several years ago initially to look at Rick Warren’s ’40 Days of Purpose’. We enjoyed it so much that we have continued to meet since!

We meet fortnightly during ‘term time’ and examine in detail passages of Scripture taken mainly from the Gospels and the Letters of the New Testament. However, we have also considered other subjects including comparing life here and in Malawi, and recently, how we can Refresh our Worship here in this town.

Scott House Group

Our Group is small and informal. We all value the contributions made by our fellow Christians, this gives us the opportunity to build up our Spiritual Life by hearing someone else’s point of view, to share our faith with each other, to enjoy fellowship and to get to know each other in a relaxed atmosphere.

Andrew

Frank's Home Group

We enjoy going to church on Sundays to worship God with other Christians, but find there is often not much time after the service to speak to people nor for relationships with each other to grow. This is where home groups score.

At the home groups we find there is always a warm welcome and the opportunity to get to know one another much better. On a typical evening we will read a Bible passage and then look at relevant questions provided by the Vicar. The discussion can sometimes be wide ranging. We don’t always all agree on a particular interpretation and sometimes we can go off at a tangent because someone brings up an issue they need to resolve. Usually we finish with prayers about what we have learned and anything else people want to bring before the Lord. The evening then ends with general chatter over tea and biscuits (and sometimes cake!).

There is usually much laughter as we grow together, learning more about the Lord and about each other. It is wonderful to know that there are people who will pray for you and offer a helping hand when life is difficult and who will celebrate and share your joy when times are good.

The early church devoted itself to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer (Acts ch.2 v.42). Home groups try to follow in these footsteps. They are a great opportunity to get to know new people, develop older friendships, learn more about God’s word, grow closer to the Lord, pray over any concerns and praise God for his goodness. If you don’t yet belong to a home group give them a try.

Other Teaching Groups

In addition to the House Groups, we also regularly run the Start! Course

Start Course

What is Start?

Start! Is a basic six-session introduction to the Christian Faith for use in small groups. The sessions assume little previous knowledge of anything Christian. They use a mix of DVD input, time to chat, simple discussion activities and space for reflection, all in a style that is down to earth and honest, and which aims to be enjoyable, too!

It is designed to help us:

  • Think where we are going with our lives
  • Ask questions about the Christian Faith
  • Discover the good news of Jesus
  • Consider what to do next.
